no journal, ,

Recently the softening of the bond-stretching phonon branch has been studied intensively on perovskite oxides including high-T$$_c$$ superconductors. We have been studying the $$x$$-dependence of the softening in La$$_{2-x}$$Sr$$_x$$CuO$$_4$$, and found that the peak width at low doping region by inelastic X-ray scattering (IXS) is much broader than that by inelastic neutron scattering (INS). In order to figure out the reason we did high energy IXS measurements (energy resolution is about 3meV). The result shows that the energy spectra consists of two peaks. By fitting the spectra with two Lorentzians, we could decide the dispersion, and the lower one was almost the same as the reported INS result. The twinning effect explains the double peak structure, but it cannot explain why INS shows only one branch.

Effect of crystalline-electric-field states on emergence of superconductivity in Ce115 compounds

Kubo, Katsunori; Hotta, Takashi

no journal, ,

Among heavy fermion superconductors, superconducting transition temperetures $$T_{rm c}$$ of CeMIn$$_5$$ (M=Co, Rh, and Ir), so-called Ce115, are relatively high. We study the role of crystalline electric field (CEF) orbital statesin emergence of superconductivity in Ce115, we consider $$f$$-electron model on a square lattice. In this study we condiser electron states with the total angular momentum $$j=5/2$$. By choosing appropriate CEF parameters,we change CEF wave-function without changing CEF level splittings. While Fermi surface does not change so much,as long as CEF level splittings are fixed, ground state changes among paramagneti, antiferromagnetic, and superconducting states depending on the CEF state. Thus, the CEF orbital state is an important ingredient for controlling superductivity. We also analize CEF orbital states in Ce115 by using experimental results of neutron scattering and thermal expansion, and we find that the variation of $$T_{rm c}$$ in Ce115 can be explained by our theory.

NMR study of neptunium filled skutterudite NpFe$$_4$$P$$_{12}$$

In the family of filled skutterudites, the only Np-based compound successfully crystallized to date is NpFe$$_4$$P$$_{12}$$. There is no other filled skutterudite including trans-uranium elements reported up to now. NpFe$$_4$$P$$_{12}$$ is isostructural with UFe$$_4$$P$$_{12}$$, except for the replacement of U by Np. Magnetization measurements indicate the occurrence of ferromagnetic ordering with a Curie temperature $$T_Csim 23$$ K. In order to investigate microscopic electronic properties of this compound, we have performed $$^{31}$$P-NMR measurements using a single crystal.
